CEBU: First insaniTRIP

July 16, 2016

It took me this long to write about this experience because until now, I still can't believe it happened. I see pictures in my own IG posts of that day and I find myself questioning its validity. Like, for real? Seriously, how can something so unbelievable could have actually happened to me? I'm finding it hard to write about it for lack of perfect words.

So, there's this new singer, Mary Gidget Dela Llana, a grandfinalist in It's Showtime's Tawag ng Tanghalan. Small thing but I'm just a really, really, really huge fan of her. That's all. Again, small thing. ✌. Haha. So I went to Cebu because she got invited to a grand opening there. The End. Hahaha.

Before I go to the actual story, here are some facts about my addiction:
I never actually saw any of Mary Gidget's TNT daily performances live on TV. Not once, ever. Understandable since I don't usually watch television except when it's the NBA or when Roger Federer is playing. I just saw a clip one night where they announced the first two grand finalists, and I still remember noticing one of the two sang her piece so well that I immediately opened my YouTube app to find the full performance. Since I forgot the song and I didn't catch the name, I had to view multiple videos first before I finally got the one I was looking for. It was when her "When You Believe" performance. It all started there. Then I watched another one of her performance. Then, another. Haha. It was her "Araw Gabi" rendition though that got me hooked for real. I should have known right there and then how to stop. But no no. Anyway, by the time I watched her video, it was already April, when she was long done competing daily. Not long after that, I was searching her name everywhere until I found and joined in the official fans club of hers called Gidgetsters. That was probably late April. My Twitter account also reawakened. Hahaha. June 17,2016 was when I finally got added to one of the FC's group chat in Facebook. So, there you go. And by the way, getting to know my fellow addicts, especially the ones I'm closer to now, could be one of the highlights of my life. Truth.

To the business at hand (haha). My first trip to Cebu was all about first times, suprises and more. Since start, the trip was throwing us surprises left and right. I was supposed to have the ferry ride to Cebu with a friend but she had a job interview in Butuan. We already booked a flight back so she had no choice but to finish the interview and go straight to the pier there where it was more distant. We ended up having to depart from different cities going to Cebu, where we arrived at same time in the morning, had breakfast, found a place to check in to have a quick shower and then started the adventure. My friend agreed to come with me to Cebu because she'd always wanted to go to Simala, where we went to straight from the hotel. Her cousin was our guide. Simala, though. It was the most majestic place I've ever been to. It's just a shame we had to cut the trip short because we we're on a tight schedule. Hahaha. I had a planned meeting with fellow Gidgetsters by 4:30 pm. And thanks to traffic, the size of Cebu and both mine and my friend's lack of sense of direction, we got to the venue at 6:00 pm. Hahaha. What transpired though from then on more than made up for it. Mary Gidget ❤❤❤ Jesus! The day I will be happier than that day would be the day I get to see her again. Truth. I mean. Jesus. My Lord. She is just.. there's no word. I can never explain this in a way that would make anyone understand how I feel. Seeing her sing in the flesh for the first time was so surreal. My mind just couldn't accept how it was happening. It felt like a dream. I was also trying my best to update the group even though the signal out there was shit. My happiness was so that I had to share some. Honestly, I was already okay with seeing her personally, and also watching her perform live. But my friend, to whom I will always have a debt of gratitude onto my grave, had other ideas and gave me one hell of a night to remember. Here's what happened. Gidget's band, sometimes called New Perspective, sometimes Serenata Strings, was on a short break from their first session. We saw her taking pictures with some people in the sidelines so we went there hoping we'd get some too. It was all chaos, like you have no idea, when suddenly my friend whispered something to me that I couldn't make out at the time. She was also always pushing me long before that telling me go go go. Like, see, I'm frozen to this spot. How can I go go go? Haha. But she must really know what would mean the world to me even though I didn't know it would mean the world to me. Haha. Then what she did next almost knocked me off my feet. She went up directly to Gidget's face (for real!) and told her that my birthday was coming up and I travelled 10 hours from Butuan just to see her. WTF. In all honesty, I don't see it was that big of a deal, what I did but I will never forget how Gidget turned to me, all teary eyed (pic below), with her hands on her face, having a hard time speaking at first, and how she went to me, kissed me on the cheek and hugged me, giving me all the highs in all of the universe. She said a lot of things but for the life of me all I can remember was "Ikaw pala yun". I fell in love with her smell. With her. Haha. That hug lasted a lifetime. Or so it seemed. I got self conscious after awhile since it was a bit hot inside and I must have been sweating a little so it was actually me who let go first. Yeah, I know. The nerve. Hahaha. The reason I remember so little of what she said to me was probably because I was relishing the moment. I kept telling myself "You're hugging her, you're hugging her, relish it". I literally turned off everything else. Haha. Okay, I sound creepy. There were more hugs and kisses, sound of her laughs that night. We got to interact with her. We got to ask for video greetings for some of our fellow addicts too. She seemed tired after the event, but she was game. One time, during video greetings, she took off one of her shoe because her feet hurt. Poor bebe.

So there you go. I got to scratch things off from my bucket list again, this time because of her. Cebu, scratch. 10hrs ferry ride, scratch. Plane, scratch. And the recently added one, meet Mary Gidget, scratch. I didn't know Simala before but it should have been in the list so scratch that too. I'm already planning to go back there, this time with my parents, who are very devoted.
I asked for a video greeting. We already hugged and all. She was still teary eyed. 😁 . Note: that is not a video.
