Name your child like you're naming yourself

Okay, this is going to be very personal. It's about my name and how it's offended me (so far).

Once upon a time, minutes after I was born, my parents decided to give me, their newborn, a beautiful name... well, if it was spelled as it should be, which my name is so clearly NOT. Who calls their children Bernadith? It's Bernadette.

People, if you're not going for the exact spelling of the name that your naming your children with, then please don't use that name fgs. There's lots of other names, Arya, Kiri, Zedka, I don't care if it's the weirdest name ever as long as it doesn't sound like another, correctly-spelled name and people won't come up to you asking "why in the world is your name spelled wrong?" As if I named myself. I mean what is your problem, people (parents)?

Witnessing people writing my name wrong is normal for me. It even happens to important documents that got my name on them. Certificates, IDs, even debit cards! Do you know what it's like to have that kind of hassle in your life? I try everytime I'm having someone else write my name on something important, to make sure I've said all the letters that consist my name to that person clearly. But mistakes happen, I know. Like my name, a mistake.

Oddly, even my parents argue about it. It's what they always do when they forget they decided the same stuffs together. If it bothers you guys, do you wonder what it does to me?

There are times when it becomes somewhat irritating when you try to correct people but they later on call you something else again. Or spell your name wrong even though you've already told them the correct spelling. I mean, my name is wrongly spelled as it is already without you making it more wrong. How wrong could it get?

Other times, I find it cute as well. When someone new is reading my name off a piece of paper, they would say my name the way it's spelled, with emphasis on the 'i' towards the end and because of that 'i', plus the succeeding 't' and 'h', most people end up saying my name like they're mad at me, like I've offended them in some way. It happens to me most of the time, so I don't really mind. Sometimes, I squirm on the inside.

It would be real amazing if people would just ignore the 'i' and just say it like you say 'Bernadeth'. Like you're not thinking about it. I know they're worried I might get offended because of the spelling but trust me, I would appreciate it if you could do that for me.

I said before that it's cute witnessing people trying their best to say my name correctly, because it sounds so weird when they do that, you can see in their face that they're saying something weird, sometimes they'd look at me apologetic and I'll be like, you know, I wish you people would just stop the effort. Just don't think about it. Going for how my name is spelled just sounds so unnatural, you know what I mean. Go natural. Haha.
