The BOOKish Kind of Guilt :)

Back from the grave. Again. Sorry, a huge pile of books has forced me to hide under a rock, cocooning myself for a considerable amount of time, although I can't say I hate the experience. Okay, so 'forced' is a wrong word then. Books are exactly why I'm back at all. Suprise, surprise, eh? I will be here spending some time writing instead of reading. For a change.

Here is a list of authors (with their books) I have read this year and what my thoughts of them (authors or books) are:

John Green - The Abundance of Katherines, Looking for Alaska, Will Grayson, Will Grayson (with David Levithan), Let it Snow! (with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle), Paper Towns

  - reading one of his books makes you want to read all the rest of his stuffs. I promise! He is a lot of things it's not normal. I have this thing where I discover a new author and compare him/her to another author I've been reading already but this one, meh. Therefore, I conclude, John Green is John Green, like him so far and I will be following this man to the moon. And back. BTW, Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns are similar in so many ways, John Green might have written both books in one breath.
  - still in my reading list: The Fault in Our Stars (popularly nicked "TFIOS"). It is set for the big screen the middle of this year. (June 6, mark it!)

Cassandra Clare (Infernal Devices) - Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Princess
  - these books are a gem. They remind me of what the Vampire Diaries (books) were in their early conception under L.J. Smith. You know, before some ghost writer took over and ruined everything.
The set is starting to make me believe I have a soft spot for series. Now that I'm finished with this, I have the Mortal Instruments series (its continuation) to worry about. And to think the whole story is not even finished yet! Oh la la.Series are bad for my pocket.

Nicholas Evans - The Loop

  - my reason for picking up this book from a bargain: before this, I ordered another one of his book online called The Horse Whisperer and I was curious to know if he was any good before I got the order, to prove myself right, maybe. The Loop didn't disappoint!
This is for those who believe impossible is just another word. (*spoiler alert!) Weird choice of coupling though.
Another miracle book slash bargain.

Lauren Weisberger - The Devil Wears Prada

  - I never laughed as hard because of a book as while I was reading this incredible good read. It made me realize a lot of things now that I'm working (about which I will not divulge). I found my copy at the local mall in Surigao, and to be honest, books off any bargains fall under my "books that come with zero hype, so minimize expectation" category, so you can't imagine how this book made me prove myself wrong. Again.
- Says one real thing at the end of this reading is you gotta suffer before you conquer. God, I hate how life works sometimes. Or doesn't.

Chris Cleave - Little Bee
  - and what of humanity? and how do you choose between two bad choices? what really matters in life? questions you don't want asked are in this book. It's so real it's utterly disturbing.

I'd like to explain myself in re: what I said before about not expecting anything when it comes to bargain books. I have a tendency to think that books I easily see and get, i.e. those in the malls that come cheap, are not worth getting. They're so in there, so available, that one might think nobody wants them. But the thing is, these places have this kind of magnetic force that must have been fashioned to work on me, pulling me in towards them. It's like half of my brain is telling me "don't pick up! don't pick up!" and the other half is telling me otherwise. It's a no, yes, yes show. I just can't walk past a pile of books without stopping. Can't. Plus, I learned a long time ago that no books fall under the "not worth reading" category. I get it now. I have a screwed up perception sometimes.

Via a friend, I recently discovered an online bookstore, and from there, everything bookish has been epic for me. The said site is called Blink. (http://www.blink.com.ph/). I'd suggest this site to anyone who wants it.

All of the books I mentioned except The Abundance of Katherines are real copies I've a.) ordered online or b.) book-hunted at malls. Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Paper Towns, Let it Snow! are all from Blink, the rest are from Newsies, the only bookstore (that I know of) left in Butuan City that sells new copies.

By the way, I noticed I could build a library if I keep this rate I'm going. And my mother is noticing too. So I have to go easy on the reading and go more easily on the buying to keep any of my parents from screaming profanities at their bookworm of a daughter.

E-book has been an inconvenience in my bookworm nature. You see, I have no problem with e-books but in order to satisfy a bookworm with e-books, he/she has to have a.) PC, b.) laptop or c.) tablet and unfortunately, all I have is d.) none of the above. So a bookworm must know how to crawl out of this labyrinth of whatever it is to, you know, survive.
